From archive: We're creating our subgroups together

Here is an important post of our group from our archive.

I've posted the below announcement to the group on January, 2011 when we were establishing our group's subgroups. It's title is "Three issues: Our vision statement, our subgroups, and collaboration needs".

The discussion belongs to the era when Linkedin Groups didn't have the so-called open groups functionality (articles were not shareable on the web, groups were "closed and exclusive clubs" only serving to their members). So there's no link to the discussion.

Yours truly,

---

Dear colleagues,

I would like to share with you three issues today.

First one is the fact that we have set our group's vision, values, and set of rules. You might have followed the discussion on the group throughout the week. You can reach our set of rules on the related section at the group, but let me restate the vision and values of our group here:

** Our vision is to feed our society with rich industrial engineering insight and perspectives. **

** Our values are honesty, feeling free to express views, welcoming feedback, and being open to change. **

I would love to have your feedback on our vision and values.

My second issue is our subgroups! Yes, we have been in the process of forming our subgroups.

I have created nine subgroups, of which you can find the details at our subgroups page (at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?subgroups=&gid=2478520), and they are as follows:

Industrial Engineers in Finance
Industrial Engineers in IT
Industrial Engineers in Sales and Marketing
Industrial Engineers in Manufacturing
Industrial Engineers in HR Management
Industrial Engineers in Quality Management
Industrial Engineers in Supply Chain Management
Industrial Engineers in Management Consultancy
Industrial Engineers as Entrepreneurs

I will be creating seven additional subgroups which are supposed to be as follows:

IE Concepts: Operations Research
IE Concepts: Statistics and Stochastical Processes
IE Concepts: Simulation
IE Concepts: Production Planning

Industrial Engineers in İstanbul
Industrial Engineers in Ankara
Industrial Engineers in İzmir

Please check our group's comprehensive set of subgroups from time to time to be able to get the most out of our group. Regarding the subgroups, please note that:

- Function-based subgroups (the already-formed ones) aim to bring together IE's who work at the same business areas, in order to enable them dig deeper on their business issues.

- Concept-based subgroups (the four in the middle group) aim to supply all of us with hardcore IE concepts, in order to feed all of us keep track of theory, related implementations, or the like.

- Location-based subgroups (the bottom three) are highly experimental, and aim to let us know of the IE's in the vicinity. If we have similar perspectives, why not get together physically, and share some more?

If you think that we should have some more subgroups please let me know, and we can decide together.

***

My third issue is that I need your collaboration in order to create the bottom seven subgroups due to Linkedin platform's limitations (you can own a maximum total of 20 subgroups).

If you would like to volunteer in taking the ownership role of a couple of all these subgroups, please let me know. I am in search of colleagues who are passionate about IE (like myself). It is so easy and always fun to moderate groups.

Remember, we will be building our group together, and now, it is time to collaborate.

***

Thank you once more for being a part of our group. We are richer with you.

Kind regards,

Ahmet Kara
